The World Black Pudding Throwing Championships, which take place on the second Sunday in September, are part of a tradition which supposedly dates back to the Wars of the Roses. Lancastrians and Yorkshiremen are said to have run out of ammunition and resorted to what can only be described as a food fight in Stubbins, just north of Ramsbottom.

It was revived first in 1839, and then again in the 1980s by the Stubbins Community Trust. And, since then, it's become an annual fixture in Ramsbottom.
