How Manchester United should line up vs Crystal Palace in pre-season friendly

Manchester United return to action for a third time in pre-season on Tuesday as they face Crystal Palace in Australia.

Erik ten Hag has enjoyed a great start to life as United boss with his methods already having an impact on his new players after winning their first two games under his stewardship. A 4-0 victory over Liverpool in Thailand was followed up with a 4-1 win against Melbourne Victory.

United are back up against Premier League opposition in the form of Palace, the team that beat them on the final day of last term's terrible season, as they look to make it a hat-trick of victories. Ten Hag could be boosted by some returning players for the match.

Young midfielder James Garner was hoping to make an impact on tour but has been stifled by an injury that has seen him miss the opening matches. Now he is back fit, however, and is in contention to start against the Eagles. David de Gea and Raphael Varane will also be hoping to return after they missed the last outing.

Here's how MEN Sport writers think United should line up against Palace and you can add your own starting XIs in the widget below.

Although Ten Hag has effectively said Harry Maguire is a starter, he is arguably not the third-best centre-back available on this tour. Raphael Varane is a better defender and so is Eric Bailly when at his optimum, rare though that is. Varane and Bailly would be a more complete partnership.

Garner needs a half, at the very least, and could work well with Fred, who can have some joy going forward. Diogo Dalot has to back up Jadon Sancho again and Marcus Rashford merits a recall.
