How Manchester United's 25-man squad could look next season after Premier League rule change

It is now less than six weeks until Manchester United begin their Premier League season with the visit of Wolves to Old Trafford.

Between now and then, they will play eight summer-friendly fixtures, welcome a few new signings, and potentially wave goodbye to a number of familiar faces too.

Even if they don't have all their business done by the time they face Julen Lopetegui's side, they will have a few more weeks before the summer window shuts.

United's preference is to get as much of it done early, and after agreeing a deal to make Mason Mount their first summer signing, the focus will be on signing a new striker and a goalkeeper.

The success of United's window could be defined by those next two summer arrivals, with Erik ten Hag well aware that they represent arguably the two biggest problems on the pitch during his reign. United's summer business will also influence how the strength of their squad is perceived heading into a season where expectations will be even higher than the last.

An important thing for United to consider when making any new signing is how they fit into the squad, not only from a personality point of view but from a registration point of view as well.

After the closure of the summer transfer window on Friday 1 September, each Premier League club will have to submit their updated squad lists for the new season.
