How Man City should line up vs Liverpool FC in Community Shield

Erling Haaland could make his domestic Manchester City debut when the Blues face rivals Liverpool in the Community Shield this weekend.

City, who pipped Liverpool to the Premier League title on the final day, can win their first bit of silverware this season and strike an early blow over Jurgen Klopp's side in the process.

Pep Guardiola will be looking for his side to get off to a good start ahead of next season's Premier League opener vs West Ham after two friendly wins in the US in the past week. Guardiola may ease new signing Haaland into action after he scored on his debut vs Bayern Munich in a 40-minute appearance in Green Bay.

Guardiola will also have to decide whether to play John Stones, Ilkay Gundogan and Phil Foden, who all missed the US trip due to American entry requirements, while Aymeric Laporte didn't travel due to injury.

With no left-back signed yet, it doesn't make sense to risk Joao Cancelo. Josh Wilson-Esbrand has impressed on tour and deserves the chance to show what he can do against Liverpool.

Similarly, Ruben Dias can put his feet up for this one and allow John Stones to come in and partner Nathan Ake after the England international missed the tour. Aymeric Laporte has been ruled out of the August games so City need Dias to be at his fittest.

Jack Grealish and Erling Haaland contributed nicely together against Bayern Munich and Grealish will be looking to cement his place in the team ahead of a big second season. Riyad Mahrez is the obvious choice on the right.
