How Man City can gain crucial upper hand against Dortmund thanks to insider knowledge

Manchester City enjoyed the perfect start to their Champions League campaign thanks to their highly impressive 4-0 thrashing of Sevilla.

Erling Haaland scored twice while Phil Foden and Ruben Dias also got themselves on the scoresheet as City, looking to finally claim the elusive European crown after years of near misses, comfortably saw off their Spanish opponents in last Tuesday’s Group G opener. It puts Pep Guardiola's side top of a tricky group that also contains German outfit Borussia Dortmund and Danish champions Copenhagen.

Next up for City is Wednesday night's clash with Dortmund as they welcome their counterparts to the Etihad. With Sevilla collapsing to a heavy defeat it appears that Edin Terzic's side will provide CIty's main competition to top the group after they also registered an impressive 3-0 win over Copenhagen in their opening fixture.

But City will head into the encounter knowing they have a crucial advantage that could help tip the scales in their favour. Pep Guardiola's side brought in both Erling Haaland and Manuel Akanji from BVB this summer and the City boss will no doubt have asked his new stars for their insights into their former side.

Haaland has been on fire since joining for a bargain £51m fee, racing to the top of the Premier League goalscorers chart and netting 12 goals in eight appearances across all competitions already this season. The Norwegian forward managed an equally incredible return of 86 goals in 89 appearances at Dortmund, while Akanji made 158 appearances for the club after joining from FC Basel in 2018.
