Luke McCowan has been told he's got it all - but there's objective he needs to start chipping away at if he really wants to be something different at Celtic.

Brendan Rodgers swooped to land the midfielder from Dundee for £1million as part of a big spending summer transfer window that included an £11m deal for Arne Engels, £9m-plus for Adam Idah's permanent move and £6m for defender Auston Trusty. The champions' midfield is arguably their strongest area of the park with competition for the three starting positions fierce. Skipper Callum McGregor is a guarantee and the likes of Reo Hatate, Paulo Bernardo and the record signing Belgian all in contention.

McCowan has shown what he can offer when called upon and once again in a chance from the start showed his qualities in the thumping win over Ross County by not only scoring but bagging three assists in the 5-0 romp. Former Rangers and Hibs star Kevin Thomson reckons the midfielder has everything in his locker and his style of play is perfect for the Hoops. But to make that next step to being a first pick week in, week out one thing can help him stand apart from his competition.

He told the Scottish Football podcast. "I think he is top drawer to be honest. He's got it all. He can handle the ball and he's made to be really successful at Celtic Park the way they dominate the ball.

"He is a risk taker and can handle it in tight areas and see a pass. The next part if he really wants to stamp himself is to start chipping in with goals to get that tally up and be a bit different.

"Moving from Dundee to such a big club, successful team with so much money spent in the summer. So many players who have been there, seen it and done it is such a difficult nut to crack to get in there
