How Leicester City match landed Newcastle United star in hot water
Newcastle United star Allan Saint-Maximin has been hit with an FA charge relating to two matches, including one against Leicester City.
Saint-Maximin has been charged with two breaches of the FA’s kit and advertising regulations after wearing a branded headband in fixtures against Leicester and Wolverhampton Wanderers last month. The French winger has until May 19 to respond to the charges.
An FA statement read: "Allan Saint-Maximin has been charged with two breaches of The FA's Kit and Advertising Regulations, contrary to FA Regulation B 2. It is alleged that the Newcastle United FC midfielder wore a headband with an established mark or logo of a clothing manufacturer during two Premier League fixtures against Wolverhampton Wanderers FC and Leicester City FC on 8 April 2022 and 17 April 2022 respectively. He has until 19 May 2022 to provide a response."
Players are allowed to wear headbands but cannot display logos or branding, according to FA rules. Leicester lost the game in question 2-1 at St James' Park. Bruno Guimaraes headed home a stoppage-time winner as the Magpies came from behind to win.
Brazilian Guimaraes had earlier cancelled out Ademola Lookman’s first-half opener, and pounced in the fifth minute of added time to the delight of the majority of the 52,104 crowd. Saint-Maximin started the game and played 89 minutes until being replaced by Dwight Gayle.
