How is Toby Sibbick getting on since leaving Barnsley in January?

The January departure of Toby Sibbick to Hearts of Midlothian certainly came as a surprise to some Barnsley fans.

Still aged just 22, Sibbick is a player with bags of potential who had certainly shown glimpses for the Tykes of what he could be capable of in the long run – often being utilised at right wing back, centre back or in central midfield.

However for one reason or another Poya Asbaghi was not a fan of the player and as a result the young prospect has made his return to Tynecastle, having previously spent time on loan with the Scottish Premiership side back in the 2020/21 campaign.

Having put pen to paper on a four year contract with the Jam Tarts, the AFC Wimbledon academy graduate is now seemingly set for a long term stay north of the border as he looks to continue his development in a more open environment that Oakwell.

So far he has featured in three league games for his new employers, keeping two clean sheets in the process against Motherwell and arch rivals Hibernian in the process, with the latter of which coming in no small parts from Sibbick’s outstanding goal line block to deny the green side of Edinburgh a last minute derby victory.

It was a moment that showcased his game intelligence to great effect and once again underlined why he is so well thought of by the Scottish club’s fans.

Indeed Barnsley could well be ruing their luck if the defender continues to develop in his current vein as the sky appears to be the limit for him at Tynecastle.
