How is Ben Davies getting on away from Liverpool at Sheffield United?

Eyebrows were raised late on in the January transfer window of 2021 when Liverpool dipped into the Championship to potentially solve their centre-back crisis by signing Ben Davies from Preston North End.

The Lilywhites academy graduate made the surprise move to Anfield on a permanent basis, but even with a mounting injury list at Anfield, Davies couldn’t break into Jurgen Klopp’s plans.

Perhaps inevitably Davies would head out of the Reds on loan this summer and he would go back to the Championship, where Sheffield United picked him up for the 2021-22 season.

How’s he been getting on at Bramall Lane though? Let’s take a look.

Davies started the season as a regular under previous Blades boss Slavisa Jokanovic as the Serb tinkered between playing a back four and a back three, which meant sometimes Davies was played in a pair and other times he was on the left side of a trio.

Since the Christmas period though, Davies has not been seen that much for United, and he was missing for a total of five league matches with ‘personal reasons’ cited as the cause of absence.

He returned to the fold against Birmingham City in January but Jack Robinson’s resurgent performances meant that Davies has had to spend considerable time on the bench.

Perhaps Davies’ best moment so far for the Yorkshire club though was when he came off the bench in the final minutes against Blackburn Rovers last month to bolster the backline, with the Blades down to 10 men.

He ended up being the match-winner however, poking the ball home from close range to give United all three points.
