How 'devastated' Andy Murray reacted to Emma Raducanu Wimbledon call off

Andy Murray was 'absolutely devastated' at missing out on what would have been his final appearance at Wimbledon.

The Scottish tennis legend was all set to play in the Mixed Doubles alongside Emma Raducanu on Saturday evening, but his partner withdrew from the match at the last minute due to stiffness in her right wrist. There had been a buzz of excitement over the prospect of Britain's two tennis titans joining forces for what could have been Murray's last hurrah at the All England Club.

Ticket holders and fans alike were left disappointed by the news, as was Murray himself, who had received a heartfelt tribute on Centre Court this past Thursday following his first-round exit in the men's doubles with brother Jamie. And the PA news agency report that he was left 'absolutely devastated' when told he wouldn't be able to play - and as such, had played his final game at Wimbledon.

Murray had made a spur-of-the-moment decision to invite Raducanu to join him in the Mixed Doubles late on Tuesday evening after he was unable to compete in the singles. He had already been eliminated from the Men's Doubles with his brother Jamie so this represented his final chance to compete at the tournament he won twice as a Singles competitor.

But 21-year-old Raducanu, prioritising her singles match with Lulu Sun on Sunday, announced in a statement: "Unfortunately I woke up with some stiffness in my right wrist this morning, so therefore I have decided to make the very tough decision to withdraw from the mixed doubles tonight. I'm disappointed as I was really looking forward to playing with Andy but got to take care."

Mum Judy Murray expressed her surprise on X, describing the news that Raducanu would no longer be playing alongside her son
