How Aberdeen FC flops REALLY feel about raging fans telling them 'you’re not fit to wear the shirt'

Angus MacDonald admits the Red Army had every right to chant: “You’re not fit to wear the shirt” at Aberdeen’s out-of-form players.

The Dons haven’t won a league game since the winter break and the midweek 2-0 home defeat to St Johnstone led to an angry reaction from the Pittodrie support. There were shouts at the players while returning chairman Dave Cormack, who had flown in from America, got it in the neck along with his fellow directors with chants of “sack the board”.

Interim boss Neil Warnock admits he can’t see where the next win is going to come from and that he can’t be confident of turning things around. Aberdeen are now just four points away from the relegation play-off slot and MacDonald said: “It is tough. We want to put on a performance for the fans and ourselves. We know that wasn’t good enough so rightly so. We have to dust ourselves down, be men, pick ourselves up and go again Saturday.

“There probably is (anxiety) deep down. It’s tough when you go on a run like this. It is tough when you haven’t won and are not getting clean sheets. We have some experience in that dressing room. I’m sure we will come out the other side of it.”

The experienced defender was recalled against Saints and has urged fans to stick by Warnock’s side. MacDonald said: “It is a tough one. We should never get beaten 2-0 at home like that. This is our patch and we shouldn’t do it. These things happen and these runs happen. All teams go through bad spells but I wouldn’t say it is easier playing away from home. The fans need to try and stick with us for as long as possible and we can turn it around.”
