Hour-by-hour weather forecast for Greater Manchester as thunderstorms to hit today

After a weekend of mostly warm, summery weather, Greater Manchester can expect a miserable and rainy day today (Monday 16 May) with thunderstorms to hit the region this afternoon.

Cloudy skies will be overhead with outbreaks of rain this morning, turning heavy at times. Rain will ease a little in the afternoon, but there will still be some heavy, thundery showers from 2pm this afternoon, until around 6pm this evening.

The good news is that conditions will become drier and brighter to end the day, with temperatures peaking at 20C. The night will remain dry and the minimum temperature will stay in double digits at 10C.

In contrast to today's weather, tomorrow (Tuesday 17 May) will start off dry and sunny. Cloud will build in the afternoon, but there will still be 'plenty of very warm sunny spells,' reports the Met Office.

Temperatures will soar to 23C, rivalling the heat in Portugal's second largest city Porto, which will peak at just 19C. Met Office chief meteorologist Andy Page said: “The plume of warm air we have been expecting from the south will bring higher temperatures across the whole country over the next week.

"However, it looks like the effects from the Atlantic lows will prevent sustained high pressure building from the east. This means that while we might see some warm - and in places very warm – days, overall the next week will feel more like what we would expect of a warm spell in May, with some heavy showers around, rather than hot summery weather.”
