Horse racing results in FULL from Fontwell, Uttoxeter, Kempton and Newcastle

The Midlands Grand National was the centrepiece of a fine afternoon of racing and Screaming Colours was to secure the verdict.

Not seen since racing at Cork last year, it was a triumphant plan for connections who had planned to go to the Welsh National but had been unable to take that engagement due to the horse suffering a setback.

Rider Conor Orr told ITV Racing of the winner: “He jumped fence to fence and he’s done it alright. When I turned into the straight I knew I had plenty left and he stays very well.

“I had to try and get something to bring me as far as I could as he can have a good look around when he gets to front. That bit of ease in the ground just helps him and slows everything down.”

Well backed favourite and reigning champion, Time To Get Up did meet trouble in running and ran on to ultimately finish in third.

Press Your Luck made no show in the Lanzarote Hurdle at Kempton but he made amends for that when securing the Virgin Bet Handicap Hurdle (2:40) at Kempton at odds of 10/1.

Dan Skelton is a rare visitor to Newcastle and Rock Legend, a half-brother to Wicklow Brave, made light work of his rivals in the first of the day. Brian Hughes did get on the scoresheet as Steinkraus won the Novices' Handicap Hurdle as the 12/1 outsider of four.

With the Cheltenham Festival behind us., and attention turning to the Grand National at Aintree it's time to take notes from the top tipster Garry Owen.
