Horse dies in crash that shut major Cardiff route

A horse has died in a crash which shut a major traffic route in Cardiff on Monday morning. South Wales Police closed Rover Way at Splott in both directions after the collision between a vehicle and a horse shortly before 5am.

Emergency services attended from 5am until 8.30am. South Wales Police closed the road in both directions and have now confirmed that the horse involved has died.

South Wales Police confirmed the road has since reopened. Residual traffic remains in the area according to traffic monitoring systems.

A spokesperson for South Wales Police said: “South Wales Police was called at 5.50am this morning (Monday October 27) to reports of a car having collided with a horse on Rover Way, Cardiff. As a result of the collision a horse has died. The road re-opened shortly after 8am.”
