Horror in Ukraine, lost hope for Khashoggi trial, Ketanji Brown Jackson's moment
Turkey announced this week that it is transferring to Saudi Arabia the trial of those accused of having a role in the killing of Jamal Khashoggi. His killing at the Saudi consulate in Istanbul, back in October 2018, sparked international outrage. Turkey's decision has raised fears that those responsible for the killing of the Washington Post columnist might never face justice for their crimes.
Later in the programme, we discuss the rising violence in Israel, which has witnessed its fourth deadly attack in the space of three weeks. At least two people were killed when a Palestinian man opened fire on a crowded bar in Tel Aviv. Following a massive manhunt, the 28-year-old gunman was tracked down earlier today and killed in an exchange of fire.
We end the show with Thursday's confirmation of Ketanji Brown Jackson to the US Supreme Court, which marked an undeniable success for the Biden administration. With an approval rating of around 41% and with only a few months to go until the midterms, the president was in dire need of a boost. This appointment, placing a Black woman on the nation's highest court for the first time, fulfills one of Biden's key campaign pledges.
