Horror as man 'knifed in the street' yards away from primary school as parents picked up children
A man was 'knifed in the street' in Moss Side just yards away from a primary school as parents picked their children on Tuesday afternoon (February 4).
Parents were left 'panicked' 'as police and paramedics descended on Adscombe Street at around 2.30pm. A cordon was put in place outside a block of flats as forensics officers also attended the scene, beside the entrance to St Mary's CE Primary School.
The victim, a man in his 40s, was taken to hospital after sustaining an injury to his arm. His condition is not described as life-threatening or life-changing, Greater Manchester Police said. It's understood he was stabbed in the street.
No arrests have been made in connection with the incident, but an investigation is underway. Officers and forensics remained at the scene throughout Tuesday evening.
One mum, Nahiida Abdullahi, who arrived to collect her children from the school, said there were 'a lot of parents and children' in the area at the time emergency crews arrived.
"I was picking up the kids from school when I noticed a lot of police cars and an ambulance nearby," she said. "I immediately panicked, thinking something had happened inside the school, since it’s so close by. I urgently told my husband to drive faster.
"As we got closer and I saw that the situation was actually outside the school, so I felt a wave of relief. While I was praying and hoping that nothing serious had occurred, I was reassured to see that all the children were safe.
"There were a lot of parents and children. The police blocked the road and we had to take the alternative route to home. Most children were questioning their parents about what had happened."
Another witness who lives nearby, said he saw officers treating the injured man shortly
