Horror as Greater Manchester beauty spot turned into a murder scene

A popular Stockport beauty spot should have been full of walkers, picnic blankets, and children playing in the bank holiday sun today. Instead, it was turned into a murder scene.

Police underwater search teams, CSI officers and GMP’s tactical aid unit descended on Penny Lane Gardens, on Tiviot Way, and sealed the scene off after discovering a body.

That was, tragically, Keano Byrne. He had been missing since March 26, last spotted heading towards Reddish Vale Country Park — just on the other side of the road to where he was found.

Today, following the discovery of the 26-year-old Gorton man's body, police have opened a murder investigation. Two men have been arrested and released under investigation.

Throughout today (Friday), a flurry of activity could be seen in Reddish Vale. Underwater search teams entered the cordon with ladders and a rope. CSI officers, in full protective suits, also went in and came out.

It marks the tragic end of a 12-day hunt for Keano, whose disappearance had been the centre of a major police investigation.. Specialist teams of police officers had concentrated their efforts in and around Reddish Vale Country Park since Keano was reported missing on March 27.

Just five days ago, GMP released the last known image of Keano, which showed him on Northumberland Road - just a couple of miles from where his body was found - in the early hours of Sunday, March 26.

He was heading in the direction of Reddish Vale, but was never seen alive again. Police at the time said it was 'extremely out of character for Keano to go this long without contacting his family' and were urgently pleading for
