Homeowners face their new-build homes being torn down after entire estate built without planning permission

Hundreds of homeowners face having their new-build homes demolished after an entire estate has been constructed without proper planning permission. Residents living in 263 newly built properties in Crewe, Cheshire are now waiting to learn their fate after finding out their homes could be torn down.

Developer Countryside Partnerships was granted permission to build the Coppenhall Place development on the site of the former Crewe Works back in 2018. But despite the homes already being built, the permission was lost last year as the developer had failed to deal with a condition relating to contaminated land.

At the end of March, Cheshire East’s strategic planning board deferred the application from Countryside for a review and assessment regarding the contaminated land issue.Last week, more than five months after the application was deferred, Cheshire East Council told the Local Democracy Reporting Service that it expects to deal with the application in September, reports CheshireLive.

The council is now expected to go ahead with their meeting this month where they will make a decision on the 263-home estate and discuss the next steps for residents.

A spokesperson for Cheshire East Council said: "Over the last few months, council officers have continued to work closely with the developers of Coppenhall Place to ensure that each reason for the application being deferred is addressed, and so that strategic planning board members have all the necessary information once the application is presented back to them.
