With more than 3.6 million people internally displaced in Ukraine due to Russia’s full-scale war, finding accommodation and housing solutions for the displaced remain a key priority.  

As part of its ongoing commitment, UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, will continue to support the Government of Ukraine’s Prykhystok programme until the end of this year, ensuring that families hosting displaced people in their homes receive financial assistance to cover additional utility costs.  

Thanks to the successful mobilization of additional funding, UNHCR can continue supporting tens of thousands of families providing housing to internally displaced people across Ukraine for the remaining months of 2024.  

“The Prykhystok programme is crucial in supporting families who have generously opened their homes to those displaced by the war. As winter approaches, ensuring these families receive the financial assistance they need to cover increased costs for utilities is more important than ever. UNHCR remains committed to continuing our strong partnership with the Ministry of Reintegration to provide this vital support until the end of the year and help to ensure the resilience of communities hosting internally displaced people,” said Karolina Lindholm Billing, UNHCR’s Representative in Ukraine

The Prykhystok programme was initially launched in March 2022 as an important and comprehensive social project to provide free housing for internally displaced people. In 2022, UNHCR provided financial support to 40,000 families as well as supported the maintenance of the website for the programme. In 2024, UNHCR has already contributed USD 15 million to fund the Prykhystok programme providing financial support to over 82,000 families hosting
