Hockey Canada's Skinner resigns as interim chair of board of directors

Andrea Skinner is stepping down from her role as interim chair of Hockey Canada’s board of directors, TSN's Rick Westhead has confirmed.

Andrea Skinner statement: “…Upon reflection, it is clear to me from recent events that it no longer makes sense for me to continue to volunteer my time as Interim Chair or as a Director of the organization…”

The move comes as Hockey Canada remains under scrutiny for its handling of past sexual assault allegations, as well as the means used to settle them with money drawn from its National Equity Fund made up of youth hockey registration fees from across the country.

A Toronto-based lawyer, Skinner assumed her role in August after Michael Brind’Amour’s resignation earlier that month. Her term as chair was set to conclude in November.

A collegiate hockey player at Cornell, Skinner was first appointed to the board in 2020.

Upon assuming her role as chair, Skinner said Hockey Canada was on the right track to effect change within the organization.

“As a board we are listening to Canadians," Skinner said in August. "We are working to make meaningful positive changes to the culture of the sport of hockey. I sincerely believe the organization is taking positive steps to effect meaningful change from the grassroots to high-performance national team level.”

More to come.
