History as Ireland adopt Craig David approach to medals

Team Ireland chef de mission Gavin Noble and RTÉ Sport's Raf Diallo join Mikey Stafford from Paris after a historic day for Ireland at the Olympics.

Victory in the lightweight double sculls saw Paul O'Donovan and Fintan McCarthy become the first Irish champions since hammer thrower Pat O'Callaghan in 1932 to retain their gold medals, while O'Donovan became the first Irish Olympian to win medals at three Games.

So far this week Ireland have won medals on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, with very real prospects on Saturday and Sunday too in the shape of Rhys McClenaghan and Daniel Wiffen.

The Craig David sweep is on, and Gavin is quick to recognise the years of effort from athletes and coaches that have led to this week.

But on a day of disappointment for our show jumpers, boxers, sailors and athletes, Gavin gives us some idea of the fluctuating mood in the village and the demands that must be met.

Mikey also previews the pommel horse final with Mairéad Kavanagh, who tells us that the draw has been very kind to McClenaghan, as she predicts gold for the Newtownards gymnast.
