'Highly sexed' man raped sex workers and 'controlled' their lives, prosecutors allege

A 'highly sexed' man raped sex workers and 'controlled' their lives by arranging their clients and pocketing their money, prosecutors allege. Nicholas Moxham, 50, from Stockport, denies 34 offences allegedly committed against seven women, and is on trial.

Minshull Street Crown Court has heard that six of the alleged victims are sex workers, and prosecutors claim that he sought to exploit the women. They also say he secretly recorded them having sex with male clients, without their consent.

Mr Moxham is accused of raping two of the women while they were unconscious. Jurors were told that Mr Moxham's alleged offending began at the height of the coronavirus lockdown in March 2020, when clients would have been unable to go to Manchester's red light district due to the stay at home order.

Prosecuting, Ben Lawrence said that this made sex workers 'vulnerable' to Mr Moxham offering his home as a place to see clients. One alleged victim said that she had known Mr Moxham for a number of years after he picked her up previously.

She met Mr Moxham again, and he offered to arrange for clients to be booked for her online. At first she was content with the arrangement but he became financially controlling, setting prices and arranging more clients than she would usually see, jurors heard.

He began to have sex with her without paying, the court was told. She later discovered Mr Moxham had been making secret video recordings.

Mr Moxham is alleged to have raped the woman while she was unconscious. She claimed she was owed money by Mr Moxham, and decided to 'blackmail' him by taking three hard drives of his which contained secretly recorded videos.
