Hibs job 'interests' former Airdrie boss Steve Archibald

Steve Archibald is said to want a return to Scottish football by taking over as Hibs manager.

The 65-year-old was last involved in the game in 2000 when he tried to buy Airdrieonians, bringing with him a host of top stars and winning the 2000-01 Scottish Challenge Cup against Livingston.

Archibald ultimately failed to buy the then-ailing club and left with his players in March 2001, leading to them almost being relegated that season, and going bust the following year.

But according to reports, he's looking to succeed Shaun Maloney at Easter Road.

Archibald played for a host of clubs including Clyde, Aberdeen Tottenham Hotspur and Barcelona, and also played for Hibs from 1988-90.

While he appears to be keen on the Easter Road job, it's believed that Hibs owner Ron Gordon is likely to appoint former Sunderland boss Lee Johnson.

Former Lincoln City boss Michael Appleton and ex-Malmo gaffer Jon Dahl Tomasson are also on the short-list but former Hearts and Kilmarnock star Johnson appears to be the preferred choice.
