Hibs face Ibrox lockout as Rangers wait for Copland Road thumbs-up

Hibs have been warned they may see their Ibrox allocation for next week’s Premiership clash slashed – or even cut completely – if Rangers cannot get their Copland Road works finished on time.

Rangers are set to return to their spiritual home on Saturday for the first time this season when they host Dundee in the Premier Sports Cup quarter-finals. But the game will take place in front of just three and a half stands as the finishing touches are put to the new disabled section in the Copland end.

Ibrox bosses had hoped to reopen the stadium in full for their showdown with David Gray’s Leith outfit the following weekend on Sunday, September 29. But with Rangers still awaiting the thumbs up from Glasgow City Council safety bosses, Record Sport has been told their remains a “small risk” that Hibs may not get their usual tranche of around 800 tickets they normally receive when visiting Govan.

That comes after Gers promised season-ticket holders in the Copland Rear section that they would all be guaranteed a ticket for the Hibs match, even if the Copland Rear remained shut.

That, though, has left Hibs in limbo less than a fortnight out from the game as they await news on ticket sale details. Now Easter Road chiefs have approached the SPFL in the hope the league can help hurry Rangers into providing an answer.

“Hibernian continues to have detailed conversations with the SPFL and Rangers regarding away tickets for the William Hill Premiership match on Sunday 29 September, 2024,” said Hibernian FC in a statement.

“Due to the ongoing maintenance at Ibrox, away ticket information has yet to be provided as Rangers go through the final stages of work to the Copland Road stand.
