Heywood crash: Man speaks out after his taxi is left wrecked in dramatic collision

A taxi driver whose vehicle was wrecked in a huge smash says he was left 'shaken' in the crash.

Emergency services scrambled to the scene in Fox Street, Heywood, at around 6.20pm on Thursday night after the two-vehicle collision involving the taxi and a blue car. Dramatic photos of the aftermath showed the taxi, which was a mini-van, completely wrecked and the blue car smashed sidelong into a wall.

Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said one person had been taken to hospital. A police cordon remains in place on Thursday evening with debris from the collision scattered across the road.

He said: “I was shaken. When I came out of my car the police were already there.”

The driver said he was going to hospital tonight and injured his shoulder and left in the crash. He said the passengers in his taxi were fortunately not injured.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said: "At around 6.20pm this evening (Thursday, February 15), fire crews were called to reports of a road traffic collision between Taylor Street and Fox Street, Heywood.
