Hertha Berlin ultras light Rangers friendly up as La Manga battle ends with fireworks and smoke bombs

Rangers' friendly defeat to Hertha Berlin didn't offer much excitement on the park in terms of action.

But off it, the pyro got going as the German side ran out 1-0 winners in La Manga. Philippe Clement - who was sent-off during the showdown in Spain - named two different staring XI's as he offered big chances to impress to players on the fringes and a host of academy hopefuls looking to follow in the footsteps of team-mate Ross McCausland.

Marc-Oliver Kempf headed the only goal of the game in the final seconds of the first half as he turned in a corner beyond Robby McCrorie, with the Ibrox No2 standing no chance. The winning goal will come as a disappointment to Clement and his troops who still have a few days of hard work ahead of them as part of their week long training camp before returning home to face Copenhagen in their final friendly before the competitive action return.

As this game headed into the final stages and the action on the park slowed down, it was only beginning to heat up in the background with the arrival of Hertha's supporters.

The Rangers TV commentary team joked: "Well into stoppage time and there is either a dodgy exhaust or the Hertha ultras have turned up in the background.

"Lots of smoke and fireworks by the looks of it. Rangers trying to get on level terms as smoke comes onto the pitch."
