Herne Bay United Roller Hockey and Skating Club's under-13s keep up club tradition with National Cup Championship win

Herne Bay United Roller Hockey and Skating Club have been celebrating after their under-13s secured a decisive victory over Ely and Chesterton to claim the National Cup Championship.

The teams at the club have a long history of success and this season was no exception, with the under-13s, under-15s and under-20s teams winning regional titles.

The under-17s team were also runners-up in their very competitive league.

Head coach Michael Harris was thrilled with the outcome, with the under-13s sealing their win at the Bay Sports Arena.

He said: “I couldn’t be prouder of the kids in each of our teams.

"The dedication and effort they put into training regularly has really paid off and they are only going to get better from here.

"I hope our success this season leads to more young people gaining an interest in roller hockey - it’s an exceptional sport that people of all ages can enjoy.”

Today, Herne Bay have more than 60 players and have developed some impressive young talent, a few of whom have been selected to play for England’s national team.

The club are currently undertaking a project with the council and a residential property developer, Bellway, to construct a community centre and multi-functional sports surface.

That surface will cater for roller hockey training and roller-skating, which will increase access to the skating community and benefit the health of the local community by providing a space for healthy physical activity.

The facility will be used as a multi-games arena as well.
