Heavyweight star Deontay Wilder set to make decision on boxing future in June

Deontay Wilder will reportedly come to a decision on his future in professional boxing next month.

For years now Deontay Wilder has been viewed as one of the best heavyweight boxers of his generation, and arguably the biggest power puncher in the history of the sport. That may sound extreme, but ‘The Bronze Bomber’ knows how to make up for a lack of technical ability better than just about anyone we’ve seen at the elite level.

However, at the age of 36, many fans and pundits alike are wondering what he’s got left to prove.

He successfully defended the WBC heavyweight title 10 times, he’s been in gigantic fights, and he’s taken a fair bit of damage in his last few outings.

The fights in question all came against Tyson Fury, with ‘The Gypsy King’ defeating Wilder twice via stoppage to cement himself as the lineal champion of the division.

As per Planet Sport, we should be expecting a decision on Wilder’s future next month with WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman having the following to say on the matter.

“Wilder is the number one contender and you have Joe Joyce at number two, three is Joseph Parker,” Sulaiman said.

“I believe [Joyce and Parker] are going to have a fight for the WBO interim championship – we’ve had no confirmation but we will just wait and see what happens. There are some variables playing around there.”

As alluded to by Sulaiman, Joe Joyce and Joseph Parker could be options for Deontay down the line in addition to a couple of other big names he has yet to meet.

Anthony Joshua is the big one with the two rivals circling one another for years without ever meeting in the middle of the squared circle.

Then, of course, there’s the possibility of a showdown with Andy Ruiz Jr.
