Hearts and Hibs unite as Edinburgh rivals make donation in aid of Ukrainian children in heartwarming gesture

Hearts have announced that they are making a donation to a fundraising page set up by the Hibernian -linked 'Hanlon Stevenson Foundation' to support the children of Ukrainian city Dnipro during the ongoing conflict with Russia.

Dnipro were Hibs' UEFA Cup opponents in September 2005 and a handful of supporters organised a charitable collection for local orphans.

Moved by their situation and story, a one-off donation quickly propelled into a formal charity movement that’s been running ever since.

The figures on kids in orphanages in Ukraine during this war are staggering with a reported 100,000 in 600 centres across the country, many chronically understaffed with the children left to fend for themselves.

Now both Edinburgh clubs have done their part to help the cause.

Hearts say all proceeds of tonight's match programme will go to the cause.

They tweeted: " Heart of Midlothian will make a donation to the @HanlonStevenson fundraising page for @DniproKids

The donation will include all proceeds from tonight's match programme sales.

The Hanlon Stevenson Foundation was started by donations from Paul Hanlon and Lewis Stevenson as part of the proceeds from their respective Testimonial Years.

The purpose of foundation is primarily youth related with a view to assisting less privileged children.

Hibs chatroom, Hibs.net, also tweeted: "We are humbled to be positioned to donate £21,367 to @DniproKids as part of @HanlonStevenson's fundraiser.

Thank you, as ever, to our users for allowing us to make contributions each year. This time more important than most."
