Hearts and Hibs Scottish Cup quarter-final dates announced as Celtic and Rangers slots set aside

The date and time of two of the four Scottish Cup quarter-finals have been announced, with St Mirren taking on Hearts on Saturday night.

The competition is down to the last eight, with ties to be played on the weekend of March 12.

However, the draw created a scheduling nightmare for authorities with both Dundee and Dundee United drawn at home, taking on Rangers and Celtic respectively.

Hosting both halves of the Glasgow divide on the same day would be a logistical nightmare but options are limited due to European competition.

Should both sides go through they'd be playing on March 10, which would usually mean playing on a Sunday, but Celtic and Rangers both playing in the same city is hugely unlikely.

On Monday it was announced the early kick-off on March 13 will be Motherwell vs Hibs, a match which will be shown live on BBC One Scotland.

The national broadcaster will also show St Mirren vs Hearts at 7.45pm the night before, almost certainly taking those slots out of the equation for Premier Sports, who will show the two matches in Dundee.

Sunday evening is still free on the schedule, so the most likely move may be for one team to play on the Sunday evening and the other at 7.45 on Monday.

Should one be knocked out of Europe they'd be likely to play on the Sunday night, as the Europa League and Europa Conference League second legs are scheduled for Thursday, March 17.
