Heartbroken dad relives his grief every time he watches Netflix

A bereaved father says he is left heartbroken every time he watches Netflix following the tragic death of his 10-year-old son.

Charlie Lowe, who was killed by a speeding driver, was hit by a car travelling at more than twice the speed limit. Over a year later, his mother still keeps her "clever, bright, funny and loving" son's teddies and pyjamas laid out on his bed.

The driver, John Harkins, broke down in tears as he apologised to the family, saying "I'm really sorry", before being sentenced for causing Charlie's death by dangerous driving.

Liverpool Crown Court heard how Charlie's mother, Lisa Lowe, had parked her Seat Leon on Abingdon Road in Walton just before 4.30pm on April 20 last year. She exited her vehicle and opened the passenger door to let her eight year old son out.

Prosecutor Stephen McNally detailed how she also opened the rear door to allow Charlie to exit from the back seat. The young boy then began to cross the road towards the Asda supermarket.

Charlie had only taken a few steps onto the road when he was hit by Harkins' 23-plate Ford Kuga, and was "thrown forward by the force of the collision". Charlie was rushed to Alder Hey Children's Hospital's intensive care unit, but his injuries were deemed "un-survivable", and he was pronounced dead at 5.40am the next day.

The 35 year old driver, from Scarisbrick Road in Norris Green, commented "he just ran out" after halting at the scene, where he was found to be free of alcohol or drugs. During his interview, Harkins was asked "if he was prepared to answer questions" and responded: "I am. I'll do anything mate, it's a little child. You know what I mean? ".
