Heartbreaking tributes paid to teenager, 17, "who made everyone laugh" killed in motorbike crash

Tributes have been paid to a "kind hearted" teenager who was killed in a road crash in Cheshire. Ben Smith, aged 17, from Irlam, died after a motorbike he and another teenager were on collided with a moped.

The location of the accident is a long country road, Holcroft Lane, Culcheth, which goes over the M62. The incident happened at about 9.30pm on Monday July 18th and Ben died at the scene. A 13-year-old boy who was also on the motorbike suffered serious injuries.

In a joint tribute, his family said: “08/03/2005 - 18/07/2022 - Ben Smith The kind hearted boy who made everyone laugh. He was deeply loved and will be missed by so many people.

“Funeral details to follow. Family request privacy at this time. Always loved but never forgotten. A loving Son and Brother Xxxx.”

In a statement Cheshire Constabulary said: " Ben Smith, 17, from Irlam, was involved in a collision on Holcroft Lane, Culcheth at around 9.30pm on Monday 18 July. Sadly, Ben passed away at the scene. His family are being supported by specialist officers.

"Officers are continuing to appeal to anyone who may have seen a moped and another motorbike around the time of the incident to come forward. The same goes to anyone who may dashcam footage from the area around the time of the incident to come forward."
