'He wants to share it' - Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag speaks out on dinner with Sir Alex Ferguson

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag says Sir Alex Ferguson wanted to share his knowledge and experience during their dinner.

Ten Hag was pictured dining with Ferguson in Cibo in Wilmslow, where Ferguson resides, at a time United are competing in four competitions.

United are third in the Premier League table and only five points behind leaders Arsenal, entertain Barcelona in their Europa League play-off second leg on Thursday, take on Newcastle in the League Cup final on Sunday and host West Ham in the FA Cup fifth round next week.

Since Ferguson retired in 2013, United have only won three trophies and they are straying close to six years without silverware.

Ferguson secured his first European trophy as United manager with a 2-1 win over Barcelona in the European Cup Winners' Cup final in 1991 and United beat Barca to reach the Champions League final in 2008. He was happy to pass on his knowledge to Ten Hag over dinner.

"It's massive," Ten Hag said. "I always enjoy speaking with people who have a lot of knowledge, who have a lot of experience. He wants to share it, so he wants to help and he wants to support. You feel Manchester United is his club and he feels so committed.

"We are doing well. It was a great night and I look forward to the next night with him!

"We all want to play big games, big matches. When we were young we dreamt of it. We are now in the position, it's still February, big games are coming up and we really enjoy it, we're really looking forward to it, we're really excited.

"We have to give our best because we want to match with the best."
