"He's not the answer" - Liverpool legend slams Manchester United for signing Casemiro

Manchester United have been criticised over the signing of Casemiro by former Liverpool player Didi Hamann who has claimed the player is "not the answer" to the club's problems.

United and Real Madrid reached an agreement on Friday for the transfer of the 30-year-old for an initial fee of £60million that could be set to rise to £70million with add-ons. The Brazilian has won the Champions League five-times with Madrid and will add a winning mentality to a struggling Reds side.

United lost their opening Premier League matches to Brighton and Brentford 2-1 and 4-0 respectively, as the midfield struggled during both games. The optimism of Erik ten Hag's philosophy of free-flowing football appears to have given way to pragmatism as he looks set to bolster his squad some much needed steel in the middle of the pitch.

However, the transfer of Casemiro to United has drawn criticism from the former Liverpool player, as Hamann questioned the impact he is going to have within Ten Hag's side.

Hamann told the Mirror: “Casemiro is a great player - you only have to look at what he has won at Madrid. But he isn’t going to United to win the league, is he? We’re only two games into the season and it’s already obvious that United aren’t going to be anywhere near the title race. They are years behind Liverpool and Manchester City - and they are losing ground on Chelsea, Tottenham and Arsenal as well.
