'He looks like a future club captain' - Luke Edwards drops exciting claim on 'superb' NUFC man

Luke Edwards has claimed Kieran Trippier has made an impressive start to his time with Newcastle United and has shown the qualities of potentially being captain material.

The 31-year-old right-back was the first player to come through the doors in the early stages of the January window following the arrival of the new owners on Tyneside.

It is believed the England international joined from Atletico Madrid in a deal worth in the region of £13.5m, having spent just one and a half years in the Spanish capital.

And since arriving at St. James’ Park, Trippier has featured in every minute of their three games across all competitions, which have seen the Toon earn four points from a possible six in the league (via Transfermarkt).

“The right-back was the first senior England international to sign for Newcastle since Michael Owen joined from Real Madrid in 2005 and he has been superb in his three appearances so far. He looks like a future club captain,” said Edwards in his latest article for The Telegraph.

Trippier does have previous experience of captaining a side after being given the armband just last season in one of England’s friendly games against Wales in October.

And with centre-back Dan Burn arriving on Deadline Day, could current captain Jamaal Lascelles see his position in the side questioned, which would make way for a new captain on Tyneside?

Next up for the Magpies is a home clash against Everton next week, so that could be the first chance to see how Eddie Howe is looking to use his January signings.
