'He has, obviously, been told...' - Journalist now drops 'huge' claim on Rangers summer target
Journalist Pete O’Rourke has now dropped a ‘huge’ claim with regards to Glasgow Rangers summer transfer target Eric Martel.
As per The Scottish Sun, the Ibrox club are currently monitoring the 20-year-old, who has already been told that he can leave RB Leipzig at the end of the season.
He is out on loan at Austria Vienna, and the Bundesliga trio of Koln, Union Berlin and Freiburg are also keen on his signature along with the Gers.
Speaking to GiveMeSport, O’Rourke has claimed that Martel has ‘huge potential’, as the journaliast gave a little bit more background on the defensive midfielder:
“It’s an interesting one. He has, obviously, been told that he might be allowed to leave Leipzig this summer because he has just one year left on his contract with the German club, but it’s been at Austria Vienna where he’s caught the eye this season.
“He has played well for the Austrian side and I think it has brought him to the attention of a number of German clubs as well as Rangers.
“He is a good age, at 20, so he’s only going to get better, you would imagine, with huge potential. He is a defensive midfielder.”
Martel would certainly be a smart signing by Rangers, as he should be available at a good price given that he only has a year left on his deal with Leipzig.
Capable of playing as a centre-back and in the heart of midfield, the Germany under-21 international has scored two goals and supplied a further three assists in all competitions so far this season (Transfermarkt), showing how much of a threat he can be in both penalty boxes with his 6 foot 1 frame.
He only turned 20 on Friday, so Giovanni van Bronckhorst can help to unearth the youngster’s potential, should he end up making the move to Ibrox in the summer.
