'He'd be a sensational Jonny Evans replacement' - Sky man urges Leicester to sign £25.7m star

Football Daily’s Chris Hamill, believes William Saliba would be a fantastic replacement for Jonny Evans at Leicester City.

The Foxes ended the 2021/22 Premier League campaign in eighth place – ultimately a disappointment given they qualified for the Europa League last season. Brendan Rodgers and co will be eager to improve next term, and with Evans now 34 and having just one year left on his contract, they will surely be looking to find a long-term replacement.

As per L’Equipe (via Get French Football News), Arsenal are willing to let Saliba leave for a fee of €30m (£25.7m). Hamill believes the Foxes should look to capture the centre-back.

Expressing his shock that the Gunners are reportedly willing to let him go, Hamill wrote on Twitter: “He’d be a sensational Jonny Evans replacement at Leicester.”

TIF Thoughts on Saliba…

Saliba has enjoyed a brilliant campaign on loan at Marseille from the Gunners. As the Phoceens finished second in Ligue 1 to Paris Saint-Germain, the 21-year-old won the division’s Young Player of the Year award, appearing in 36 games in the competition.

The youngster outperforms Evans in a number of areas in league football, including passing accuracy (93.1% to 83.2%), tackles per game (1.5 to 1.3) and interceptions per game (1.3 to 1.1). Of course, the Premier League may demand a higher level than the French top tier, but it is clear that Saliba has quality, and for £25.7m, he could prove to be a bargain for Leicester.
