HBO series dubbed 'modern day Friends' you can watch for free

Mindy Kaling's popular comedy, The Sex Lives of College Girls, has been a hit with millennials and Gen Z since its 2021 debut, and UK viewers can currently enjoy the full boxset for free.

The series follows the story of Kimberly Finkle, a working-class student who finds herself at a prestigious New England university alongside three girls from vastly different backgrounds.

Pauline Chalamet stars as the introverted main character, with pop singer Renee Rapp playing Leighton Murray, Alya Chanelle Scott as Whitney Chase, and Amrit Kaur as Bela Malhotra. Together, they navigate the trials of romance, academia, and finances.

Now, two years after season two, the eagerly anticipated third instalment is nearly here, and UK viewers can watch the boxset on ITVX.

As the show is aired on HBO, it premieres for American audiences first. However, ITV acquired the series in 2022 and has made seasons one and two available for home viewing, reports the Mirror.

Season three will premiere on HBO Max on November 21, but the UK release date is yet to be announced.

Upon its debut, the drama received widespread acclaim and was even labelled the 'modern-day Friends.'

Lucy Mangan, TV Critic for The Guardian, gave the series a five-star rating and praised it in an article which praised its "spectacular chemistry", likening it to the long-running and nostalgic sitcom Friends.

On Rotten Tomatoes, viewers also praised the series. One fan commented: "It is not easy, not to get hooked on this show! Chalamet, Kaur, Rapp and Scott all make incredible first-hand impressions in the first episode, clearly depicting who their characters are, but still not making them two-dimensional. While the whole storyline just stays entertaining! It is a fave."
