Harry Maguire yet to speak to new Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag

Manchester United captain Harry Maguire has not yet spoken to Erik ten Hag following the Dutchman's appointment as manager.

Ten Hag was installed as the club's new boss on April 21, before being unveiled a month later on May 23. He watched United's final-day Premier League defeat by Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park from the stands, but played no part in the pre-match preparations or selection of the team.

The Dutchman, who was poached from Ajax, will meet some of his players for the first time when pre-season training gets underway in a fortnight's time at Carrington. Returns to United's training base will be staggered because of the pool of players that are currently on international duty.

Several members of Ten Hag's squad, such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Bruno Fernandes, Fred and Maguire, among others, will return later than those who have enjoyed a well-earned rest. But although Maguire, who started England's goalless draw with Italy on Saturday night in the UEFA Nations League at Molineux, is yet to hold talks with Ten Hag, he is excited by the Dutchman's arrival at Old Trafford.

"No, I haven't spoke with him yet," Maguire told talkSPORT. "I think he understands that I'm away on international duty. Four games in a week-and-a-half is a lot, so I'm sure I'll speak to him real soon. He's an exciting appointment.

"Coming off the back of a really tough season for everyone at the club, everyone's excited and really looking forward to working with him. So yes, I'm sure after this international break I'll go away and have a break and I'll look forward to meeting up with him, the squad again and see where the season takes us."
