Harry Maguire in England Euro 2024 squad 'risk' as Gareth Southgate cuts three players

Manchester United defender Harry Maguire is 'at risk' of missing the European Championship in Germany because of injury, according to a report by The Telegraph.

Maguire was included in England's provisional 33-man squad for the tournament despite missing United's final four matches of the season with a muscle problem. He has not played since the Reds' 1-1 draw with Burnley at Old Trafford on April 27.

He suffered the injury in training in the build-up to the 4-0 thrashing at the hands of Crystal Palace on May 6. United manager Erik ten Hag was originally hopeful that Maguire would be fit in time for the FA Cup final triumph over Manchester City, but he lost his fitness battle. As a result, he teamed up with the England medical staff early, as did fellow United defender Luke Shaw.

Both players have played starring roles for England at major tournaments in recent years, with Maguire cementing himself as a starter at each of the last three. He is one of Gareth Southgate's most trusted operators.

However, it is reported there are 'doubts' he will be fit enough to be included in Southgate's final 26-man squad. He didn't train on Thursday morning, working on an individual programme instead. Southgate must submit his final squad to UEFA by 11pm on Friday evening.

England will put the finishing touches to their plans for Euro 2024 on Friday night, facing Iceland in their final warm-up match at Wembley. The Football Association [FA] will make the squad public at 12noon on Saturday.
