Harry Kewell makes instant Celtic training impression as he gets tough in no nonsense player message

Harry Kewell may be the new guy at Lennoxtown but he had an instant impact on the Celtic players during his first day of training.

Ange Postecoglou added the Australian to his coaching team this summer as he looks to continue the momentum from last season after delivering Scottish Premiership title glory and a Premier Sports Cup. It may be a big ask but the returning players and staff looked determined as they returned for day one of pre-season training.

Former Liverpool and Leeds United star Kewell also looked to show what he is capable of under the watchful eye of his fellow countryman as he he put the likes of Yosuke Ideguchi and James Forrest through their paces. The 43-year-old will step into the shoes of Stephen McManus this season after the former Parkhead skipper took up a role with the Colt side ahead of the upcoming Lowland League campaign.

And Kewell was keen to see the champions get back to basics ahead of the new campaign. He was quick to stamp his authority on training during as Johnny Kenny rounded off the move with Ideguchi and Kenny. The Celtic first-team coach stated: "It's the hardest thing in football, to play it simple."

Ahead of his first session at Lennoxtown, Kewell admitted that it only took one call from Postecoglou to see him drop another job. He added: “I was actually going in for another interview for another job, I thought it went really well. I was looking forward to the call back. And in-between that time I actually had a call from the manager. The way he spoke to me, the way he spoke to me, the way he presented the job, I said yes straight away. I didn’t even worry about the next part."
