Harry Kane 'trophies' transfer warning exposes Erik ten Hag's biggest Manchester United issue

A warning to Manchester United about Harry Kane's want for trophies has summed the biggest issue Erik ten Hag needs to overcome this summer.

United are in for a busy summer ahead with the likes of Paul Pogba, Jesse Lingard, Juan Mata and Edinson Cavani all expected to leave the club at the end of the campaign. A striker is therefore likely to be among their priorities and Tottenham Hotspur's captain has been linked in the past.

However, according to former United forward Teddy Sheringham, the Reds may struggle to bring Kane to Old Trafford following their lack of success in recent years and the absence of Champions League football. Depending on Sunday's results, Ten Hag's new team will be playing in the Europa League or Europa Conference League in 2022/23.

But discussing the prospect of Kane arriving in the north west, Sheringham said that it could still be difficult for the 28-year-old to reject a move to the Theatre of Dreams. Speaking to Genting Casino, he explained: "If you were a United fan you’d wish that Kane joins.

"If Harry Kane made himself available, I think every club in the world would want him on their list. Manchester United are falling down the pecking order for big players, but having said that, they are still a massive club, they’re still a massive draw.

"If they do come calling, it’ll be hard to turn them down. Even if they’re not in any European competitions next season, it would still be a very tough thing to say no to Manchester United.
