Harry Kane has been advised to pursue a deeper role similar to the one Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney adopted in the later stages of his career.
Tottenham striker Kane, 28, has scored 20 times in all competitions this season including seven goals in his last six Premier League games. But he is also renowned for his creative ability and scooped the 2020/21 Playmaker of the Season award with 14 assists in the top flight to add to his Golden Boot.
The England captain frequently drops deeper than a conventional centre-forward to collect the ball in a similar manner to Rooney in his playing days. The Old Trafford legend, 36, was frequently used in attacking midfield towards the end of his career - and Joleon Lescott suspects Kane's long-term future could be in such a role.
