Hard work, perseverance key to IoD golf kitty victory, says Odigie

Winner of the 40th IoD anniversary golf kitty, Dr. Godfrey Odigie, has described his victory at the Ikoyi Club 1938 Golf Section, at the weekend, as a product of hard work and perseverance.

Speaking at the end of the competition, Odigie revealed that he played and studied the game twice a week in his quest for victory.

Describing the game as ‘all of life,’ Odigie said that one needed integrity, honesty and sportsmanship to play golf.

“The game makes you try to be a better version of yourself and it does not matter what anyone else on the course is trying to be… it can be likened to life as you try to be a better version of yourself when you play the game,” he said.

Earlier, IoD President, IoD Nigeria, Dr. Ije Jidenma, urged directors to embrace golf and other sporting activities to live healthier lives.

Represented by the institute’s first Vice President, Tijjani Borodo, Jidenma said the golf kitty is a platform for socialisation and networking for members and other Nigerians.

She said the institute decided to organise the golf kitty because sports is a tool for social harmony and cohesion.

Also speaking on the kitty, Director General, IoD, Dele Alimi, said the competition was organised to encourage directors to embrace sports, healthy living and engage in other activities beyond the boardroom.

Alimi said the event has brought the institute close to golfers, who are eminent Nigerians and also ensured that members of the institute network and understand the value the sport adds to healthy living.

“In continuation of our keep fit programme for directors on June 10, we will be having a walk for life, which would hold simultaneously in Abuja, Port Harcourt and Lagos.

“We will have members of the institute do at least a 10km walk
