But Vaclav Cerny believes Hamza Igamane could very well be Rangers’ man for the moment. Thursday night’s dream double in Nice saw the Light Blues’ young Moroccan hitman finally announce himself to the Ibrox faithful six months after making his move to Glasgow. Boss Clement has been keen to hush the summer hype that followed the 22-year-old’s £1.7million switch from FAR Rabat, insisting the frontman would need time to find his feet in Scotland.
It certainly looked that way as Igamane registered just one goal in his first 11 appearances in a blue jersey. But the poacher took a massive stride forward at the Allianz Rivera as he registered two goals and an assist in the 4-1 pounding of the Ligue 1 outfit. Clement walked into the post-match press conference after his side’s stunning victory and again trotted out his line that Igamane has “potential for the future to become an important Rangers player”.
But wideman Cerny won’t be surprised if that future begins now. “It was a special night for him, definitely,” said the Czech, who was teed up by Igamane for the opener on the Cote D’Azur.
“But for him it was also very clear what we wanted to do and you could see the will, the drive and the determination he had in the game. It helped us a lot, obviously.
“We just managed to create what we created. There were not many, many in the first half. But after we took those chances in the first half after that the game was almost dead.
“It was an amazing game for him, but also for the whole squad. You can say it’s important not to put pressure on him, but on the other hand, it's football, it's the top level of football.
