Hampden Park in running to host major European final after declaring interest with UEFA

Hampden Park is in the running to host its first European final since the 2007 UEFA Cup final after UEFA revealed the National Stadium was a contender to host one of the continent’s showpiece club occasions in 2026 or 2027.

The Scottish Football Association has registered its interest to host either the Women’s Champions League Final, or the Europa League or Europa Conference League final, with final bids to be submitted by February 21 next year and a decision to be made in May 2024.

The Glasgow ground will go up against one of Gelsenkirchen, Munich or Stuttgart, plus Oslo, for the right to stage a Women's Champions League final and for the Europa League finals, its rivals will be one of Dusseldorf, Frankfurt, Gelsenkirchen, Leipzig or Stuttgart plus Bucharest and Istanbul. Leipzig, Jerusalem, Oslo, Geneva and Istanbul are the other venues in the running for the Conference League finals.

Hampden Park last hosted a Euro final when the all-Spanish UEFA Cup final was contested by eventual winners Sevilla and Espanyol. Real Madrid also famously won the European Cup in Mount Florida in 1960 and again when they lifted the Champions League in 2002.
