Hampden mistaken for a PRISON as chuckling punters left thinking they're seeing double in social media post

Hampden has had its fair share of critics - but fans have now been left thinking they're seeing double after an image shared of a PRISON down south.

A picture of HMP Birmingham has been shared on social media, with the front of the building displayed. It's garnered thousands of likes but some Scottish football fans have taken to the comments to compare its similarities with the front of the national stadium in Mount Florida. One punter said "Looks like he’s outside Hampden" while another agreed by saying "Genuinely what I thought for a second."

"Thought he was outside Hampden for a second" was the bemused reply of one fan and "I thought it was Hampden at first" followed suit. The post comes after news that Scotland's national stadium will be one of the host venues for Euro 2028 as part of a joint UK and Ireland bid, which wasn't lost on one supporter.

"Congratulations to HMP Birmingham for being a host stadium at the 2028 Euros" was the response. And one simply said "uncanny" when it came to the resemblance between the two. Back at the actual Hampden, and there's an optimistic look towards the major tournament on home soil in 2028.

Chief executive Ian Maxwell said to the BBC: "We'll try and get as many games as possible. There's consistency across the bid, with us, Wales, Northern Ireland and Republic of Ireland getting one stadium. We have a really good track record of hosting high-profile, successful matches at Hampden and we want to continue that.
