Hamilton, Verstappen, Vettel: F1's most penalised drivers in last 10 years

Lewis Hamilton is one of the most penalised Formula 1 drivers of the last 10 years.

The Brit will go down as one of the greatest drivers to ever take part in the sport, but that hasn’t stopped him being a frequent offender of the rules.

He appears in seventh place in a top 10 of most penalised drivers as revealed by Money.co.uk.

Venezuelan Pastor Maldonado has topped the list, costing Williams and Lotus £108,200 during three offences in his career.

Next in the list is Sergio Perez, who is no stranger to a fine as his seven offences have cost his various teams £94,200 throughout his career.

Frenchman Jean-Eric Vergne was only in Formula 1 for three years, but he still managed to be fined a total of £62,400 during that time.

Kamui Kobayashi was fined £57,700 and rounding off the top five is four-time world champion Sebastian Vettel, who has cost his teams £54,400.

Vettel’s six offences have come from 279 starts and for the last few years he has appeared frustrated as he has been unable to compete for the world title.

Romain Grosjean comes in sixth in the list, but he has only been fined £300 less than Vettel.

Next is Hamilton, whose £51,400 fines are fairly impressive considering he has raced 288 times in the sport and for the majority of his career he has been competing for the title.

He has been known to push as hard as he can in order to stay on top, and has been given four offences by the stewards.

The majority of Hamilton’s fines are from last year, as he was fined £41,000 for two offences.

Rounding off the top 10 are Lance Stroll (£51,000), Kimi Raikkonen (£50,000) and current world champion Max Verstappen (£41,900).

Finn Raikkonen was always going to be on the list due to his huge 349 races, where he has found
