Hamilton star not ruling out promotion play-offs as he makes 'you never know' statement

Hamilton defender Daniel O'Reilly says missed chances were what prevented Accies from obtaining a weekend Championship win at Raith Rovers - but the top four is still within reach.

The centre-back - who arrived at head coach Stuart Taylor's side last month from Irish side Drogheda United - was an impressive performer in the 0-0 draw.

Nobody was able to turn the ball into the net though, despite several key chances for the away side in Kirkcaldy, who have rued missing their shots in previous games.

Now their attentions turn to facing part-time league leaders Arbroath away from home on Wednesday. O'Reilly enjoyed the bread and butter of his job, but was disappointed not to see the net bulge.

He said: “We had enough chances to win the game and we were the better team. On another day we could have come away from this with three points.

"From a defender's point of view, I thought we should have scored from a set-piece. On another day we might score one or two. But we are happy with the clean sheet.

"I enjoyed the defending but there were a couple of times I thought I could have done better. I'm probably just being overly-critical, and the clean sheet doesn't just come from the defence, it comes from the whole team.

"On another day we take a win. It would be another problem if we weren't creating the opportunities that we are just now. That's the positive.

"Now we are looking to take all of those into Wednesday night's game."

Accies are sixth in the table ahead of Wednesday's Arbroath battle and are 12 points off Raith, who occupy fourth, the Championship's final promotion play-off spot.
