Hamilton Accies Women lose unbeaten start in SWPL2 as boss blasts second half display

Hamilton Accies Women boss Robert Watson was fuming with the second half performance from his side, as they let a two-goal lead slip against Boroughmuir to fall to their first defeat of the season.

The SWPL2 leaders looked to be on course to maintain their unbeaten start to the campaign when goals from Kirstie Macintosh and Josi Giard had them 2-0 up heading towards half-time.

However, Boroughmuir pulled one back on the stroke of half-time from the penalty spot before netting a further twice after the break to stun Watson’s side, who had gone 11 games unbeaten.

And he said:”I think that from being in a completely commanding position, we’ve handed them all the momentum right before half-time and early in the second half.

“I didn’t think for a second we were going to win every game this season or go unbeaten. The league is too competitive for that but I feel that in the second half we spoke about their dangers and, for whatever reason, we’ve not taken that information into the second half.

“Consistently, Boroughmuir were able to play long into the channels behind us and, with the wind in the second half, it allowed them to pin us for periods.

“We were then too sloppy in position to build and go the other way, so I think that is the frustration and the disappointment.

“Over the season, we’ve shown we are better than this but all of us have to take responsibility for the second half.

“They’ve got to take individual responsibility for individual moments in the game and we’ve got to take responsibility as a coaching team. I’m annoyed at how cheap the three goals are that we’ve conceded.”

Accies are eight points clear of nearest rivals Kilmarnock at the top of the table and will look to bounce back when they return to action on
